Between June and October, join one of the 20 Giant Bluefin Tuna tours on the Northumberland Shore. The Giant Blue Fin tuna, which can weigh up to 1,000 pounds, draws sport fishers from all over the world to Nova Scotia.

In Cape Breton, the sea inlet known as Bras D'or is a great place to catch a variety of fish throughout the year. In the 11,000 square kilometers, trout are the most commonly caught fish, but you can also catch smelt, salmon, eel, bass, and other fish.

Eastern Passage is a small fishing town that is 20 minutes from Halifax. You can catch saltwater fish like pollack and mackerel at Fisherman's Wharf, bass, trout, and pickerel at nearby Morris Lake and Desaid Lake, or blue shark on a charter boat.

The eastern portion of the Bay of Fundy, which splits at Cape Chignecto and is marked by the massive Cape Split headland, is formed by the Minas Basin. This bay had the highest tidal range ever recorded on the planet. This basin is fed by some of the most important rivers in Nova Scotia: Salmon, Avon, Shubenacadie, and Cornwallis During the fishing season, anglers in the Minas catch striped bass weighing between 2.3 kg and 40 kg. Sea run trout and American Shad are also to be expected.
