The Exploits River is the best place to go for one of the best Newfoundland salmon fishing experiences. It is the longest river on the island, stretching 246 kilometers and being in the center of the island. It also has a lot of fish because of a program to stock it and made passages that go around two of the biggest dams. Anglers will have a good chance of catching a big fish because the Exploits are home to between 20,000 and 40,000 fish per year.

Humber River

The Humber River, which winds its way through Corner Brook and into the Bay of Islands, is a great place to fish for big fish. Even though many of the river's underwater inhabitants are between 30 and 60 inches in length, with some salmon weighing up to 30 pounds, the Lower Humber has produced more trophy fish than any other river on the east coast! The 20,000 to 30,000 Atlantic Salmon that pass through this river have spent roughly two years at sea and arrived in good shape because of the cool, high-quality water.

Portland Creek

When you travel north on the Viking Trail from Arches Provincial Park, Portland Creek is the first town you come across. Although it is a small community, that does not mean it lacks character. The nearby Portland Creek River, which is internationally renowned for its trout and salmon fishing, gave the town its name. Beautiful white-sand beaches surround the river's mouth, making it easy to get there from the highway.

Flowers River

The Flowers River offers novice and elderly anglers the chance to experience the fishing scene in Newfoundland and Labrador without the difficulties of more intense rivers like the Exploits or the Humber. Because the river is calm and the water is clear, you might just be able to see your next catch. When fishing, this method, also known as "sight-fishing," is rarely feasible or recommended, which adds to the uniqueness of the experience. After a successful day of fishing, anglers should be able to smile from ear to ear thanks to the Flowers' high catch-per-rod ratio. The Flowers, like other rivers in the province, are best visited from mid-July to August. Anglers can anticipate catching salmon weighing between eight and twelve pounds during this time.
